Riverside South -Ottawa-Gatineau, Ontario neighbourhoods and nearby communities

Riverside South is a suburban community is located in the former city of Gloucester just southwest of Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport. In the early 1990s the community had just a few houses and some farms, but over the last few years enjoyed extensive housing development. The developed areas are closest to River Road and Earl Armstrong Road, and west of Limebank Road.

This area includes nearby neighbourhoods of Honey Gales, Gloucester Glen and Cedardale. The population here is about 11,000.

The community has traffic slowdowns during the morning rush hour into Ottawa, and the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge is in planning to link the community to Barrhaven.


The area is mostly single family homes, and surrounded by farms.

Three pecent of the dwellings (mostly farmhouses) pre-date 1970, 29% were constructed between 1996 and 2000, and the bulk (61%) were constructed in the period after 2001. Rthe community now has 2400 dwellings of which 62% are single family, 11% are semi-detached, 27% are row houses, and less than 1% were low-rise apartments . The community's L'école élémentaire catholique Bernard-Grandmaître has a "balanced calendar" with a shortened summer vacation providing extra one-week vacations at Thanksgiving vacation, an Victoria Day, and during March break.

The community is served by a public school, French and an English Catholic schools, and two high schools: Merivale to the west South Carleton to the south, and the close-by St Francis Xavier for the Catholic Board. Students at L'école élémentaire catholique Bernard-Grandmaître attend the only Ottawa area school with a "balanced" year-round calendar.

The nearest public library is in Manotick Public Library, with bookmobile service on Wednesdays.


Shopping is nearby in Manotick, to the west in Barrhaven, or to the east in Blossom Park


The community is surrounded by farmland and Greenbelt.
