Rideau Canal Locks above Dows Lake, with a Downtown View

Ottawa is a town with nature on its side. Three major rivers (the Ottawa, Ridean and the Gatineau) connect here,which caused the city to become important in the early fur and then timber trade. After the War of 1812, the Rideau Canal was built to connect Montreal and the Lower Saint Lawrence with Lake Ontario and Toronto, giving Ottawa a national strategic importance, which it has never lost.
