Orleans Central is a wedge-shaped part of Orleans, bounded by the Queensway on the north, St-Joseph Boulevard on the south, 10th Line Road to the east and Jeanne D'arc Boulevard to the west. In teh eastern portion lies the Place d'Orléans Shopping Centre, the movie theatre, and the Shenkman Arts Centre. The west end or this are is mostly residential, an area, called Convent Glen South. At the extreme west end, along Youville Dr, is the Youville Industrial Park
Orleans Central has about 4,000 residents.
Orleans Central has 7% of homes built between 1961 and 1970, and most (49%) were constructed 1971 to 1980, 11% built 1981 to 1985, 15% built 1986 - 1990, and 7% after 2001.
Orleans Central has about 1,500 dwellings, 38% of which were single family, 7% are semi-detached, 21% are row houses, 5% are apartment duplexes, 9% were high-rise apartments with more than 5 stories, and 21% were apartments less than 5 stories. 23% of residents rented, while the great majority (77%) owned their homes.
The neighbourhood has a public elementary school, but is not far from Catholic elementary or high schools.
Place d'Orléans Shopping Centre is the major shopping centre in the area.
The Elizabeth Manley skating rink is inside the Bob MacQuarrie Orleans Recreation Complex (formerly Orleans Recreation Complex), is at the west end of this neighbourhood.
The Shenkman Arts Centre, just east of Place d'Orléans, includes a concert hall, black-box theatre, several art galleries and studio spaces for both visual and performing arts. There is also a multiplex cinema beside the Place d'Orléans Shopping Centre.
