The quiet town of Richmond is located a few minutes south-west of Stittsville, east of Munster and north of the village of North Gower. The community provides lots of scenic views and recreational access. >.

Richmond was established in 1818 as a military settlement on the Jock River, which flows into the Rideau River ear Barrhaven. Richmond was incorporated as a village in 1850 and annexed by Goulbourn Township in 1974, and in 2001 became a suburb within the City of Ottawa.

Following the War of 182, the British Army set up a military settlement here, and named the community for the Duke of Richmond, who was the newly appointed Governor General of the Canadas. The soldier of Major Burke and his 99th Regiment were attracted with grants of free land in the area. Richmond failed to grow quickly, given its isolation away from Bytown/Ottawa, and the Rideau Canal (built to the east, away from Richmond). The community has several beautiful and well-maintained historical buildings, which have been well maintained, such as St. Philip's Church (the oldest church in the Catholic Archdiocese of Ottawa). Richmond has a population of about was 3,300.

Richmond's amalgamation into the city of Ottawa is a cause for concern for many local residents, raising concerns about sustainable community development, livability, and local governance. These concerns are represented by groups like the Carleton County Landowners Association.

The community has excellent road access, with RR 10 to Carleton Place, Perth, or Smith Falls, and Highway 416 to Prescott or Ottawa. Richmond is 15 km from North Gower, 32 km from Carleton Place, 36 km from Downtown Ottawa, 41 km from Smiths Falls and 45 km from Perth.

Richmond Road also meanders through Bells Corners to downtown Ottawa. The village has limited OC Transpo transit service into Ottawa.

Richmond is one of Ottawa south's most fashionable communities, and is home to several recent developments, including Kings GrantSchools

The community has one pubic elementary school, and one Catholic school, and is home to the South Carleton High School. Catholic high school students attend in the Neighbouring town of Stittsville.

Shopping

The village houses a selection of shops and services including a LCBO, banks, drugstore, grocer, and several restaurants. The town's main shopping centre is called the Richmond Plaza Kanata is just a ten minute commute via highways 416 & 417, while Ottawa's downtown core is approximately 30 minutes away.

Recreation

Sports associations in Richmond include curling, ice hockey, soccer, and softball. The Rideau Trail runs through Richmond providing walking, cycling and ski trails.
